I get asked this a lot. "Why only 50?" Sometimes it's genuine curiosity. Sometimes it's frustration, from a mum who missed out and wants to know why I didn't just make more.
So here's the honest answer.
When I started Sand + Salt Kids, I made a decision that felt a bit mad at the time. I wasn't going to chase volume. I wasn't going to pump out hundreds of units and hope for the best. I was going to make a small number of really good things, and when they were gone, they'd be gone.
50 units per style. That's it.
It's not a marketing trick. It's just how we work.
The hoodies are made in Bali. By hand. By a small team I trust completely, who take their time, who care about the stitching, who aren't rushing through a production line to hit a quota. That kind of making has a natural limit. And honestly, I'd rather have that limit than lose what makes the clothes good in the first place.
I design everything here on Phillip Island, usually with a coffee going cold next to me while one of my boys tells me the colour is wrong. The ideas come from this place. The coast, the chaos, the way kids actually live in their clothes. That part matters to me. I don't want to outsource it or scale it into something I don't recognise.
So we stay small. On purpose.
What that means for you is this. When a hoodie drops, it's real. There are 39 of them in that colourway. When they're gone, we don't restock that exact run. Sometimes a style comes back in a different colour. Sometimes it doesn't come back at all.
Mums who've been around for a while know to move fast. Not because I'm creating fake urgency, but because the numbers are genuinely what they are.
The flip side? Every kid wearing a Sand + Salt hoodie is wearing something that wasn't mass produced. Something that had hands on it. Something that was made to last more than one kid, one season, one wash cycle.
That feels worth it to me. I hope it does to you too.
