Why Childhood Doesn’t Need Another Screen

One of my favourite things about running Sand + Salt Kids has nothing to do with clothing.

It’s the photos our customers send me.

Kids covered in sand.

Covered in mud.

Balancing on skateboards.

Jumping off rocks.

Running barefoot through the backyard.

They’re not looking at a screen.

They’re just being kids.

Every time I see those photos, I’m reminded why I started this brand.

Childhood Looks Different Now

Kids today are growing up in a world that’s very different to the one I remember.

Technology is everywhere.

Screens are part of everyday life.

And while they absolutely have their place, I still believe some of the best childhood memories happen outside.

The beach.

The park.

The bush.

The backyard.

Anywhere imagination gets to take over.

Clothes Made To Join The Adventure

When I design a collection, I’m not imagining perfectly styled family photos.

I’m imagining grass stains.

Salt water.

Scooter rides.

Messy hair.

Ice creams melting down little hands.

The kind of days kids remember when they’re adults.

That’s why comfort and durability matter so much to me.

Because adventures don’t wait for delicate clothes.

The Best Compliment

People often ask me what my favourite customer message is.

It isn’t hearing that something looks cute.

It’s hearing…

“My child refuses to take it off.”

Because kids are honest.

If something is itchy, stiff or uncomfortable, they’ll let you know.

If they love it, they’ll wear it over and over again.

That’s always been the goal.

Create the clothes they reach for first.

More Outside. More Memories.

I know I can’t change the world.

But I hope Sand + Salt Kids can play a tiny part in encouraging more outdoor adventures.

More scraped knees.

More salty hair.

More muddy feet.

More memories.

Because childhood goes by incredibly fast.

And I think every adventure is worth dressing for.
