Why I’ve Restocked This Kids Tee for Six Years
When I first designed our Life Is Rad tee, I honestly had no idea if anyone would buy it.
It wasn’t created because I wanted another graphic T-shirt.
It was created because I wanted kids to wear words that made them feel good about themselves.
As a mum, I know childhood isn’t perfect.
There are amazing days filled with adventures, laughter and muddy feet.
But there are also days where confidence disappears.
Friendships feel hard.
School feels overwhelming.
Or they’re simply having an off day.
I wanted to create a tee that reminded kids of something simple.
You’re rad.
Not because of what you’ve achieved.
Not because of what sport you play.
Not because of the marks you get at school.
Just because you’re you.
That little message became the heart of the design.
A Leap of Faith
Like every collection I create for Sand + Salt Kids, ordering the first production run was a leap of faith.
Would anyone connect with it?
Would parents understand why I chose those words?
Would kids actually want to wear it?
I had no idea.
But I backed my instincts anyway.
Looking back now, I’m so glad I did.
Six Years Later…
The Aruba Blue Life Is Rad tee is still part of Sand + Salt Kids.
We’ve restocked it more times than I can count.
Families come back looking for the next size up.
Brothers and sisters wear it.
It’s become one of those pieces that quietly found its place in our brand.
Not because it was designed to follow a trend.
Because the message never goes out of style.
More Than Just a Kids T-Shirt
People often ask where my ideas come from.
Sometimes they’re inspired by Phillip Island.
Sometimes by watching kids play outside.
Sometimes they’re simply the words I wish every child believed about themselves.
Life Is Rad has always been one of those designs.
It’s a reminder that even when life isn’t perfect, there’s still so much good to be found.
It’s a reminder to get outside.
Laugh more.
Explore more.
And believe in yourself.
Why It Will Always Have a Place Here
There are products that come and go.
Then there are products that become part of your story.
Life Is Rad is one of those.
Six years later, it’s still one of my favourite designs to pack because I know every order carries more than just a T-shirt.
It carries a little reminder that I hope every child feels when they put it on.
That they’re enough.
That they’re awesome.
That they’re completely, unapologetically rad.
And I hope that feeling stays with them long after they’ve outgrown the tee.
