There’s something I think about every time I design a new collection.
Not what it looks like on launch day.
Not how it photographs.
Not even how many I think we’ll sell.
I think about the third wear.
Because that’s when real life begins.
The first wear is exciting.
The tags are still on.
Everything feels new.
By the third wear…
It’s been to daycare.
It’s climbed trees.
It’s been covered in lunch.
It’s probably been through the washing machine a couple of times already.
That’s when kids’ clothes need to prove themselves.
Kids Don’t Stand Still
If you’ve ever watched kids for more than five minutes, you’ll know one thing.
They don’t stop.
They’re running.
Jumping.
Rolling down hills.
Building cubbies.
Finding puddles.
They live life exactly as childhood should be lived.
The clothes they wear should be able to keep up.
That’s why quality has always been one of my biggest priorities.
Made To Be Worn Again
One of my favourite things is hearing from customers who pass our clothes down to younger siblings.
Or cousins.
Or friends.
To me, that’s one of the biggest compliments we can receive.
Not because it means another sale.
Because it means the clothes have done exactly what they were designed to do.
Be loved.
Be lived in.
Then be loved all over again.
Fast Fashion Was Never The Goal
When I started Sand + Salt Kids, I wasn’t interested in making clothes that looked good for one season.
I wanted to create pieces that became favourites.
The hoodie they ask for every morning.
The tee that somehow survives every adventure.
The shorts that make it through another summer.
Because that’s better for families.
And it’s better for the planet too.
The Clothes They Reach For First
Kids are wonderfully honest.
If something isn’t comfortable…
They won’t wear it.
If they love it…
You’ll struggle to get it off them.
That’s always been my benchmark.
Not whether I like it.
Whether kids do.
Because if they keep reaching for it, I know we’ve done something right.
And honestly…
That’s still my favourite kind of feedback.
