A Day in the Life of Ash: Balancing Motherhood and a Small Business

, by SAND N SALT KIDS, 5 min reading time

Hey there, lovely readers! I'm Ash, the proud mom of two incredible little lads, and the passionate creator behind SAND+SALT KIDS, where we create unique and sustainable kids clothing that lasts.

Today, I want to invite you into a typical day in my life, one where I wear many hats – mom, wife, business owner, and advocate for a greener future.

Morning Hustle:

7:00 AM – The day begins with a gentle nudge from my early-riser lads. While I'd love a bit more sleep, their infectious enthusiasm for the day ahead is a beautiful wake-up call. We start with breakfast, and it's a precious family moment.

9:00 AM – Once the kids are off to school, I dive into the business side of things. Emails, meetings, and reviewing the day's agenda become my priorities. My home office doubles as a creative haven and a place for me to tackle the nitty-gritty of running a small business.

The Creative Zone:

10:00 AM – My heart finds its rhythm when I visit our Bali artisans through video calls, emails, text. The craftsmanship, dedication, and love they pour into each piece of clothing is truly inspiring. It's a reminder of the beauty of handmade creations.

11:00 AM – This is when my creative juices start flowing. I'm either sketching new designs or experimenting with fabrics and colors. The essence of our brand lies in creating clothing that kids want to wear, and I take this aspect seriously.

Lunch Break and a Breath of Fresh Air:

12:30 PM – A quick lunch break with a view of Phillip Island's serene beaches. It's a chance for me to recharge and soak up some inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds me.

Balancing Act:

1:30 PM – Back to work with a balance that's crucial for me – a mix of business and family. I often find myself juggling school pickups, sports, and managing the daily operations of my small business.

Community and Giving Back:

3:00 PM – As a brand committed to sustainability, we've partnered with i=change, donating $1 from every sale. Today, I spend time reviewing the impact of our contributions and communicating with our customers about where their donations are going. It's heartwarming to see the difference we're making together.

Quality Control:

4:00 PM – After school, my lads are often my little helpers in quality control. They love to inspect the clothing, ensuring that every piece lives up to our high standards. It's a family affair, and their enthusiasm is contagious.

Dinner and Wind-Down:

6:00 PM – Evenings are dedicated to family time, with usually a delicious home-cooked meal or sometimes take away when time just does not allow. We chat about our day, share stories, and revel in the simple joys of life.

The Perfect Balance:

9:00 PM – The kids are tucked in, and it's a chance for me to reflect. Balancing motherhood and a small business is undoubtedly challenging, but it's incredibly rewarding. Knowing that I'm not only providing for my family but also contributing to a more sustainable future for kids everywhere is my driving force.

So, there you have it – a glimpse into a day in my life, one filled with love, challenges, and the pursuit of creating something meaningful.

Being a mom and a small business owner isn't always easy, but it's a journey I wouldn't trade for anything.

Thank you for joining me on this adventure, and I hope you continue to be a part of our sustainable kids clothing story.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates from SAND N SALT KIDS, where we're crafting clothing that kids want to wear and never take off, all while ensuring a greener planet for generations to come.
